AUDAY SUPPORT

Frequently asked questions.

A little clarity, from your first recording to the memories you keep.

Can I record throughout the day?

Yes. Start Auday on your Apple Watch to keep recording through your day. You choose when to record; the iPhone receives and processes the recordings. All-day or 24/7 describes the intended use, not a guarantee of 24 uninterrupted hours or instant transcripts. Battery, storage and system interruptions can limit coverage. Check the recording indicator, and obtain any notice or consent required before recording others.

How do conversations, health and places fit together?

Auday first turns your Watch recordings into searchable text on your iPhone. When enabled, body states from Apple Health and places recorded by your Watch are matched to the relevant time ranges. With your AI provider configured, these signals can add context to Highlights, summaries, daily reflections and Chat.

For example, a discussion may be shown alongside a walk, a recorded area or a period of elevated physiological stress. This helps you revisit the moment with more context. It does not prove that the discussion caused stress, identify a speaker or change what the transcript says.

Does Auday need time to learn my baseline?

Yes. Auday compares suitable readings with your own recent history. For each day, it looks back at up to 14 preceding days. An initial heart-rate or HRV baseline needs enough usable measurements across at least two earlier days; the two signals can become usable separately. You do not have to wait a full 14 days if suitable history is already available in Apple Health.

If there is little or no history, the first few days are a period of gathering enough evidence. Sparse readings or gaps can make this take longer. Regular Watch wear and health synchronization help make data available. Reaching the minimum enables a comparison; it does not mean the estimate becomes accurate on a particular day. Recording and transcription work while this history builds.

Do I have to share health or location data?

No. In Settings → Body & location data, you can enable Body data and Location data separately. Health access is granted on your iPhone; location access is granted on your Watch. Recording, transcription and local search work without either option.

When enabled, attached context is included in relevant AI requests to your configured provider, including automatic reviews you enable. Read the Privacy Policy for the data and recipients involved.

HRV & stress

What is HRV, and where does Auday get it?

Heart-rate variability (HRV) describes variation in the time between heartbeats. It is different from heart rate, which counts beats per minute, and it is not a direct measurement of psychological stress.

Auday currently reads the SDNN form of HRV from Apple Health, expressed in milliseconds. Apple Watch can automatically record these measurements and sync them to your iPhone. Availability depends on your Watch, settings, movement, signal quality and synchronization. Auday reads the available records; it does not measure beat-to-beat intervals itself or manufacture HRV between measurements.

How does Auday estimate stress?

Auday’s own on-device algorithm compares suitable heart-rate and HRV readings with your personal baseline. It considers whether you were active, asleep or recovering from exercise, as well as how recent and consistent the evidence is. A heart-rate rise alone is not automatically labeled stress.

When fresh HRV is unavailable, repeated suitable heart-rate readings can sometimes support a lower-confidence estimate. When there is not enough evidence, no stress label is added. The result is a clue about physiological strain for revisiting your day, not a measured emotion or an Apple-provided stress score.

Is stress context updated in real time?

It updates as new measurements become available to Auday, rather than through continuous stress measurement on your Watch. Readings must reach Apple Health on your iPhone, and Auday needs an opportunity to process them. Background delivery, a locked phone and connection delays can mean labels appear later.

There is no guaranteed second-by-second or fixed-minute update interval, and Auday does not provide a live stress monitor. Labels refer to the time supported by the readings, not the time they arrived. Without fresh evidence, Auday does not invent a new rise or fall or fill every gap.

How accurate is it, and what does “Feeling good” mean?

Stress labels are estimates, not measurements. “Feeling good” indicates that suitable readings were close to your usual range at that time; it is not a diagnosis or a promise that nothing was difficult. Labels can be wrong, especially with sparse data, illness, caffeine, alcohol or unusual activity.

A label describes the readings behind it, not how you felt. It cannot confirm what a conversation meant, and it should not be treated as medical advice or a health record.

Do workouts and sleep change the labels?

Auday separates exercise and recovery from ordinary stress where the data allows. Elevated readings during and just after a workout can be treated as exercise rather than stress, though gaps in workout data can leave the system treating a period just after a workout as ordinary stress readings. A recovery label is a contextual estimate, not a measured recovery percentage.

Recent sleep can also provide background when AI reviews your day. Short sleep does not automatically create a high-stress label, and a sleep observation from the previous night does not mean you were asleep during a later conversation.

Places & context controls

Where do place labels come from?

With Location data enabled and permission granted, your Watch records available locations while Auday is actively recording. Your iPhone groups them into approximate places and uses Apple’s geocoding service to look up readable street or area names. This lookup sends coordinates to Apple. Tapping a label opens the saved location in Apple Maps.

A label describes the area supported by the observations. It is not proof that you entered a particular building, and it may be missing or approximate when positioning or network access is limited. Auday does not promise an exact route or uninterrupted location coverage.

What happens when I turn body or location data off?

The setting stops new collection or attachment as applicable. Earlier labels stay with their records and can still be included when those records are used in AI requests. Saved summaries, Highlights, remembered facts and Chat history are kept.

Turning the setting back on resumes attachment going forward; it does not fill the interval when it was off. The switch does not erase past context, delete Apple Health records or recall information already sent to a provider.

Recording & storage

Why did my recording stop?

Some iPhone calls and alerts, Siri and other system interruptions can affect Watch recording. If it has stopped, reopen Auday on your Watch and tap to start again. The Watch Recording Tips in Your Watch can help reduce interruptions.

When do recordings reach my iPhone?

Auday normally prepares recordings for automatic sync every 15 minutes, and may prepare them sooner at an hour boundary or when recording is paused or ended. Transfer timing depends on the connection and Apple’s background scheduling. Keep the devices nearby and open Auday on your iPhone if it is waiting.

Saved recordings can wait on your Watch until the phone confirms receipt. The iPhone transcribes received audio and builds its local search index. Continuous recording does not mean live word-by-word transcription; processing can continue when the app next has time to run.

How much battery does all-day recording use?

In one local Auday team test, an Apple Watch Series 11 (GPS) recorded continuously for 12 hours 30 minutes with the screen off and no charging. Battery went from 100% to 49%: 51 percentage points used, with 49% remaining.

The test ran from September 18, 2026 at 12:21 to September 19 at 00:51, on model MEUG4CH/B with watchOS 26.6 (23U67). It is one observed result, not a guaranteed runtime. Battery health, display use, connectivity, other activity and enabled health or location features can change consumption. It does not establish the same result with every optional feature enabled or prove 24-hour battery life.

How much space will I need?

At 8 recorded hours a day, original audio uses about 800 MB for 7 days or 3.5 GB for 30 days. Recording 24 hours a day uses roughly three times as much. Models and text need additional space. Your storage-duration setting removes older audio while keeping transcripts, summaries and other text.

Does Auday save every second as an audio file?

Auday can omit audio storage for intervals it confidently identifies as extremely quiet, while preserving their place in the recording timeline. This is not a speech-only filter: sounds and background activity can still be kept. Uncertain intervals and protected moments around Marks are retained.

A preserved silent interval is different from a recording interruption or missing audio. It can play as silence for its original duration, but it has no saved sound to recover. Spoken content still needs to be captured and transcribed to become searchable.

Can I restore my archive if I lose my iPhone?

Auday has no server copy of your archive, and the archive is excluded from iCloud and computer device backups. Do not rely on reinstalling the app or restoring a device backup to bring it back. Preserve important information separately before removing the app or replacing your phone.

Apple Health has its own iCloud and sharing settings. Those are separate from Auday’s archive. Removing old audio through Auday’s retention setting keeps saved text, but that audio can no longer be played.

Which languages and speakers are supported?

Auday currently supports Chinese and English transcription. It does not identify or separate individual speakers. The on-device pipeline is optimized for a small memory footprint, with trade-offs in recognition features. Noise and overlapping voices can affect accuracy.

AI & privacy

Which AI provider does Auday use?

You choose. Auday works with the AI provider you configure with your own API key. AI highlights, summaries, daily reflections and Chat use that provider. Usage fees, if any, are charged by the provider, not by Auday.

What actually gets sent to the AI provider?

When you use an AI feature, the relevant text and the context needed for that request are sent directly from your device to your chosen provider. Auday has no backend servers in the middle and does not keep a copy of your original audio or transcripts on any server of ours. Your original audio always stays on your devices.

Can I use Auday without any AI provider?

Yes. Recording, playback, on-device transcription and local semantic search work with no cloud AI and incur no AI provider fees. AI highlights, summaries, daily reflections and Chat are the optional parts that use your provider.

Is my data used to train models?

Auday does not train models on your data and does not receive your recordings or transcripts. What your chosen AI provider does with a request is governed by that provider’s terms and privacy policy.

Finding & understanding memories

How does search work without the cloud?

Your iPhone transcribes recordings locally and builds an on-device search index. Semantic search runs on that index, so you can look for a moment by meaning, not just by exact words, without sending your archive to a server.

What are memories, and who controls them?

Memories are the people, preferences and little details that Auday AI keeps to understand you better over time. You can review, edit or deactivate them at any time in Your memory. A summary and a little perspective, drawn from your day, comes with a way back to the original words.

Can I follow an answer back to the exact words?

Yes. AI answers can cite the source moments in your day. Follow a citation back to the transcript and the original audio to hear what was actually said.

What do daily reflections include?

A daily reflection is a short summary and a little perspective drawn from your day: conversations, highlights, activity and, when enabled, body and place context, with links back to the original recordings.
